This session explores how digital innovation, data transparency, and collaborative governance can strengthen sustainability and trust in Arctic seafood value chains. Drawing on experiences from government, industry, and research, it offers a forward-looking discussion on securing sustainable fisheries and reliable food supplies in a changing world.

Arctic fisheries are entering a period of change. Reduced quotas and the breakdown of Norway–Russia fisheries governance have exposed vulnerabilities in regional food systems. Combined with global supply chain disruptions and rising geopolitical tension, these developments highlight the urgent need for secure, traceable, and predictable seafood systems, ensuring sustainability and preparedness.

Building on the Arctic Frontiers 2026 Big Picture themes “Building up the Arctic: Preparedness” and “Ebb and flow of economies: regional economies and resilience”, this side event takes a deep dive into the future of Arctic seafood systems. It explores how governance frameworks, technological innovation, and industry practices can jointly ensure sustainable resource use and long-term preparedness.

The event brings together perspectives from fisheries governance, industry, and research projects, combining presentations with an open, moderated discussion.
