Three women active in the world of technology recently met at MARINTEK to discuss the future role of leadership. In spite of their age differences, all three were completely in agreement that quotas are a useful measure for getting women into top positions.
The biggest diving operation ever undertaken at MARINTEK has just come to an end. Forty people participated in upgrading the movable floor of the Ocean Laboratory.
One hundred and ten guests, including leading experts from Canada, Japan, Germany, China, Australia and the UK. Top managers from Europe’s other leading ship model tanks. Directors, professors, ship-owners and politicians. All of them had gathered in Trondheim just before last weekend to congratulate the 75-year-old Ship Model Tank, which was lauded as a maritime R & D landmark.
This ship makes it easier to find one’s sea legs, thanks to opposing waves created in specially-designed tanks fitted in the hull. The ship will house personnel working on offshore installations, and is optimized to provide the best possible comfort when moored adjacent to a platform.
SINTEF has designed and manufactured the test rig that mainly will be used for full scale vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) testing of risers and other type of cylindrical structures.
The new Circulating Water Tunnel (CWT) is a test facility dedicated to optical measurement techniques and flow visualization. The tank's measurement section is completely transparent and can be operated either with a free surface or the lid closed.
