Webinar: Imaging geological complexity to better understand fluid flow in the subsurface

One of the difficult tasks for subsurface CO2 storage is to find large storage locations with good seals. For this, a better understanding of geological complexity is needed to address fluid flow in the subsurface.

Peter Betlem, former NCCS PhD candidate, will present the key results from his PhD dealing with the imaging of potential seal bypasses and the implications elsewhere. The work leverages Svalbard’s exceptional outcrops as analogues for “invisible” features in the subsurface, and relates near-shore fluid migration to geological complexity and temperature-dependent secondary seals.
