Jan Erik Håkegård

Senior Research Scientist

As part of his Ph.D. studies, Jan Erik Håkegård was a research fellow at ESTEC (ESA) in 1995 and at Politecnico di Torino, Italy, in 1996. Since 1997, he has been a research scientist at SINTEF Digital, and senior research scientist since 2009. In 1998 and 1999 he worked as guest researcher at NIST, Gaithersburg, MD, USA. He is regularly used as sensor at NTNU, and has served as evaluator in Horizon Europe in 2022 and 2023.


- 1990: Sivilingeriør (M.Sc.) from The Department of Electronical Engineering and Informatics, NTH, Trondheim, Norway.
- 1993: Mastère in Avionics at ENSAE in Toulouse, France.
- 1994: DEA in Signal and Image processing at INPT, Toulouse, France.
- 1997: Docteur in Electronics and Communications at ENST, site de Toulouse, France. Subject: “Digital receivers for communications over frequency non-selective fading channels.”

Competence and research areas

Jan Erik Håkegård has been leading and participating in research and development projects related to various types of Wireless Communication Systems for over 25 years. He is currently involved in several projects related to 5G and beyond 5G, and is particularly interested in open RAN solutions.
