Espen Flo Bødal

Research Scientist

My research focuses on decarbonization of the energy system and challanges related to energy storage needs for integrating renewable energy sources. To this end, I use mathemathical modelling and optimization on integrated energy systems where electricity, hydrogen and other energy carriers are central components.

Education

I have a PhD from the Department of Electric Energy at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. My doctoral thesis focused on production of hydrogen from renewable energy in constrained transmission grids. Prevoius to my doctorate, I studied engineering at the master program for Energy and Environment at NTNU.

Competence and research areas

My competance centers around techno-ecomonic analysys of the power system using models which includes investments and operation. For this purpose, I develop and use mathamatical models based on optimization. The models I use are mainly base on the programming languages Python and Julia. Collection and processing of open power system data is also an important part of this work.
