Bård Johan Arnt Bjørkvik

Senior Research Scientist

Bård was employed by SINTEF on a project basis 1993-1997, working on projects relevant to the oil industry. From 1997 to present he has been a full time employee at SINTEF as researcher and senior researcher with reservoir technology as field of research.

Education

Bård has a degree of Sivilingeniør and Doktor Ingeniør (roughly equivalent to MSc and PhD) in Technical Physics from the Technical University of Norway in Trondheim, in 1986 and 1992, respectively. The thesis work involved development of an optical method for study of fluid interfaces by laser-light scattering spectroscopy.

Competence and research areas

Bård has been working on methods in the Reservoir Laboratory for measurement of thermophysical properties of fluids at elevated pressure and temperature (interfacial tension, density, viscosity, visco-elasticity, etc.), but has also studied transport processes of fluids in porous media experimentally (by core flooding). In addition, he has been doing work on modelling/simulation of fluid properties (surface chemistry, equations of state, phase behaviour, etc.) The main application has been for enhanced oil recovery (for example by chemical/microbial methods), but the research is relevant for fluid transport processes in porous media in general and flow assurance issues, for example related to asphaltene/wax deposition and fines mobilisation/transport, which issues are relevant for underground storage of carbon dioxide and hydrogen in aquifers and depleted oil/gas reservoirs.
