At SINTEF, we work across disciplines to understand today’s and tomorrow’s challenges in the transport system. We collaborate with public and private stakeholders along the entire value chain to find solutions that promote economic growth and sustainable communities, while reducing the negative impacts of transport.
Urban Logistics
As cities become denser and populations grow, competition for urban space increases. At the same time, sustainability is becoming ever more important. Freight transport must therefore be viewed in a holistic perspective together with passenger transport and urban planning.
SINTEF collaborates with local stakeholders, both public and private, to increase knowledge about urban logistics through data collection and sharing. With the right knowledge, cities can develop sustainable policies and practices for the delivery of goods and services and create attractive urban environments.
Automation and Digitalisation in Logistics
Technological advances in automation and digitalisation make it possible to increase both safety and efficiency in freight transport.
SINTEF is at the forefront of research on automation of heavy transport, where we not only study the technology, but also regulations, infrastructure needs, and social acceptance.
We also have thorough experience in information and communication technology to support efficient freight transport and supply chain management.
