Mechanical and tribological properties of SBR graphene composites

Abstract
Hybrid SBR composites have been compounded containing graphene nano-platelets in order to improve technical elastomer performance and to reduce the energy dissipation during frictional processes. It is still unclear how to manage a satisfactory exfoliation and inclusion in a rubber matrix. Therefore, investigations were focused on novel carbon-based nanostructured fillers (graphene nano platelets) with less than 10 nm thickness. In nearly all cases a significant level of friction reduction was achieved. The resulting stick-slip phenomena and properties were described. Moreover, static gas adsorption, curing, mechanical and dynamic mechanical properties were investigated.
