Predicting Wind Induced Motion of Suspension Bridges Using Parallel CFD

Abstract

The flow over a flexibly suspended bridge profile of the box girder type, and the resulting movement of the profile, are simulated using a Navier Stokes code coupled to a set of ordinary differential equations. Based on the computed time histories of the movement, aerodynamic derivatives are estimated using the Covariance Block Hankel Matrix Decomposition Metho d, and compared to the results from the wind tunnel experiments.
