Predicted effects of impurity elements on Al alloy microstructure and properties from thermodynamic simulations

Abstract

The effect of different impurity elements on the microstructure of a series of Al alloys was studied by thermodynamic modelling using Thermo-Calc. The purpose is to better understand the effect of increased levels of certain elements in the alloys that may arise from the addition of more scrap / recycled materials in the alloy production.
