Experiments on Different Ambient Energy Resources for Ultra‐low Power IoT Devices

Abstract

This document is an outcome of the SEP‐project Sustainable IoT. We summarize our experiments comparing energy harvesting from Photo Voltaic (PV) elements and RF signals. We have measured supercapacitor charging using different PV elements. The efficiency of rectifiers is critical for RF harvesting. As a rule of thumb, a power level of more than ‐20 dBm is required for RF harvesting. The energy collected from a PV element is generally much higher than we can get from RF harvesting. Therefore, PV elements are preferable for cases where the batteryless device is exposed to light. ISBN: 978‐82‐14‐07784‐1
