A proposed methodology for conducting a spatial mapping of grid impact from EVS based on open-source data

Abstract

In this paper, a method for performing a spatial mapping of grid impact from EVs has been developed. The method identifies vulnerable areas and substations where EV load will be higher in the future and substations may need an upgrade. The method is applied on three counties in Norway: Troms, Trøndelag, and Agder. The method is divided into three steps. The first step is to extract power system information for Norway (Troms, Trøndelag, and Agder) from Open Street Map. The second step involves assigning EV energy to these counties using an existing model, the “Energy Map”. The last step is to identify the vulnerable areas in these counties.
