Abstract
A PFA/CO2 4.0 wt.% mixture was tested as a sealant agent in cement-cement cracks under pressure conditions relevant to oilfield applications. The mixture successfully and efficiently blocked the cement sample as the polymer-CO2 mixture flowed through the sample cracks. A posterior sample analysis did confirm the presence of polymer blocking the crack volume. Thus, a promising sealing agent for P&A and remediation has been identified. The results presented in this report provide the basis for new and more extensive research efforts with possible applications at larger scales where proper studies of adsorption mechanisms, effectivity on blocking cement-cement and cement-rock cracks by the PFA-polymer will have to be studied.
