Numerical Simulation of Level Ice Loads on Norströmsgrund Lighthouse

Abstract

Level ice loads acting on Norströmsgrund lighthouse are simulated by using the commercial finite element code LS-Dyna. For modelling the constitutive behavior of level ice, a Cohesive Zone Element formulation for modelling the tensile behaviour and fracture ice is combined with an elasto-plastic/Continuum Damage Mechanics formulation based on Hills yield criterion to model the compressive behaviour.
