Resistance-type moisture meters with standard short pin probes cannot rule out mold risk in realistic situations

Abstract

Resistance-type moisture meters are not suitable for monitoring drying-out of constructions, unless measurements are taken at a sufficient depth. Simulations may be useful to identify critical areas. In many practical situations, critical areas for mold growth are not accessible with standard electrodes. In the example shown, molds may develop after surface measurements are well below the limit for mold growth, commonly given as 15 %,
