Surface Self Intersections

Abstract

Self intersecting surfaces can be a consequence of several standard CAD operations for generating freeform NURBS surfaces. In this presentation we will focus on computing the exact topology of the self intersection curves of a NURBS-surface. The self intersections are computed using recursive subdivision. We will in particular apply the method on NURBS approximations of pipe surfaces and study the topology of the self intersection curves for a number of such surfaces.
