JIP oil in ice summary report

Abstract

The Joint Industry Program on oil spill contingency for Arctic and Ice-covered waters was established in 2006 and completed by the end of 2009. Acknowledging the fact that the Arctic exhibits different environments in the terms of ice conditions, water depth and the like, the results from this program represent a concerted industry effort for the improvement of oil spill response techniques for Arctic waters. Another important part of the program has been to gather more knowledge about the fate and behaviour of oil spills in ice and under cold water conditions.
