Electrical Design of a 1200 MW offshore wind farm

Abstract

The electrical design of a 1200 MW offshore wind farm is considered. A reference design is developed based on 5 MW wind turbines connected in 33 kV AC radial feeder collection grid and transmitted to shore via HVDC cables. A number of alternative designs are then described and compared to the reference case. The electrical designs are modelled in a computer simulation tool and results from steady-state numerical analyses are described.
