Turbine Placement in the NOWITECH Reference Windfarm

Abstract

NOWITECH is designing a 1.2 GW wind farm for use in research studies. The baseline verion of the farm, described in this memo, consists of 120 DTU 10 MW turbines. The wind farm is located at the Dogger Bank Creyke Beck A site. The layout has been chosen as a realistic possibility for this site, but also with a thought towards features that will be interesting for research. Thus the placement of the turbines is irregular, arranged in blocks, avoiding an area of deeper water in the middle of the site. The expected aerodynamic energy production (not including drivetrain and electrical transmission losses) in the Dogger Bank wind climate has been computed: on average, 49.9 GWh per turbine.
