A framework for quantifying the benefits of robot-assisted deconstruction and reuse of structural concrete components

Abstract

This paper addresses the challenges of reusing structural components from existing buildings, a strategy that offers significant environmental benefits but is hindered by high costs. One way to improve this, is efficient deconstruction planning, what can be improved by robots. The paper presents a framework focused on optimizing End-of-life strategies for reinforced concrete components deconstructed by robots. A robotic disassembly sequence planning algorithm is presented which optimises disassembly costs. The framework also integrates a value of information-informed decision assessment to guide the acquisition of necessary information, balancing its costs against expected benefits.
