Abstract
This paper presents a recursive mode shape tracking method for power system modal analysis, utilizing a Euclidean distance metric to assess similarity between complex mode shapes. The approach facilitates real-time tracking of known modes and also identifies newly emergent modes. The performance of the proposed mode shape tracking method is demonstrated using measurement data from an oscillation event in the Nordic synchronous system. The method is also compared to an existing clustering method utilizing the density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN) algorithm. The proposed method enhances operational awareness, providing system operators with a continuously updated view of the evolving system dynamics.
