Feasibility of offshore wind turbines in ice-infested waters: A preliminary environmental and technical study

Abstract

This study addresses early-phase development challenges for offshore wind farms in cold marine environments characterized by seasonal and dynamic sea ice. While the early phase development of an offshore wind park in ice-infested waters is beyond the project's scope, the primary objective is to assess environmental loads and evaluate the technical feasibility of gravity-based foundations (GBFs) for supporting wind turbines under ice loading conditions.
