User experiences with user-friendly emission limit allocation tool

Abstract

Increased connection of power electronics to the grid has made emission allocation procedures more important. In 2023, REN released a user-friendly tool for emission allocation according to IEC 61000-3-6, -3-7 and -3-13, which includes simplified network modelling features for calculation of more accurate limits. The tool now has over 100 users, who have provided feedback on functionality and requests for new features. The article describes user experiences after the first two years of use, and the changes made to accommodate them. This includes requests for more versatile and accurate modelling of impedance at the customers’ point of connection, handling of series and parallel resonance in the results, extension of the tool’s area of use to meshed networks, and customer communication.
