Abstract
Projects can be viewed as learning arenas. The knowledge that is created in projects can be shared within projects and between projects to avoid unnecessary duplication of work and transform individual learning into collective / organizational learning. However, project-based organizations encounter barriers to sharing knowledge. The study that this paper is based on, aims to identify major barriers to knowledge sharing and how they can be addressed. This is done through a qualitative study in public, project-based organizations in
Norway. This paper summarizes results of the study and discuss it. The results indicate that organizational structure, organizational culture, nature of the project concept and top management’s involvement play a significant role in determining the success of knowledge sharing in project-based organizations.
