Abstract
This study investigates an unusual corrosion-susceptible region located ~15 mm from the weld in two MIG-welded 7xxx-series aluminum alloys. Hardness profiling, corrosion testing, and TEM/EDS analyses reveal microstructural and compositional features that differ significantly from both the weld-adjacent HAZ and the unaffected T6 base material.
