Flicker-Related Voltage Changes from Short-Term PV Variability in MV Grids

Abstract

Power systems are moving from synchronous generation towards inverter-connected renewable generation, raising concern regarding the effects on voltage quality. Solar PV contributes little mechanical inertia, and its active-power output follows irradiance conditions. Rapid cloud movements can therefore become rapid active-power changes. In radial medium-voltage grids, these changes may appear as voltage changes at the point of interconnection.
