Abstract
The construction industry is one of the largest contributors to green-house gas (GHG) emissions, energy and resource consumption. With the Paris agreement, and international climate goals, there is an imminent urgency to cut GHG emissions. There is a plethora of climate mitigation strategies documented in grey literature to reduce GHG emissions from the construction industry. However, this knowledge is often localized, fragmented and with varying system boundaries, making it difficult for architecture, engineering and construction practitioners to know which climate mitigation measures are the most effective in reducing direct and indirect GHG emissions cost-effectively. This paper extracts lessons learnt from Norwegian technical reports and articles on the identification and effective-ness of different climate mitigation strategies for the Norwegian building and construction industry. The results indicate that practitioners should evaluate cli-mate mitigation strategies on a project-by-project basis, to maximize the GHG emission reduction potential with the least amount of incurred costs. The lessons learnt are useful for practitioners interested in reducing GHG emissions from their building and construction projects.
