Abstract
This document is the user manual for the final release (Version 1.0) of VERES3D, a three-dimensional linear potential-flow seakeeping and added-resistance code developed at SINTEF Ocean within the Research Council of Norway Knowledge-building Project for Industry Improving Performance in Real Sea (IPIRiS, NFR project 308843, 2020–2026). VERES3D is formulated in the frequency domain using the boundary-element method with the zero-speed Green function in a reference frame moving with the ship. Version 1.0 provides six-degree-of-freedom motion calculations and added-resistance prediction through two complementary formulations — a far-field control-surface (CS) method and a near-field direct-pressure-integration (NF) method — both available at zero and forward speed. Finite-water-depth capability and parallel multi-core computation are included as standard, and the code is fully integrated into the ShipX v4 workbench. Released iteratively to industry partners from November 2020 onwards, VERES3D is intended for practical use in early-design seakeeping, added-resistance, and operability analyses within industrial ship-design workflows. This manual covers installation, licensing, input-file preparation, simulation control, and post-processing for Version 1.0.
