Abstract

Several major accidents are related to the interplay of organisational properties and technology. The aim of this report is to present a set of perspectives that can help us understand the organisational mechanisms related to major accidents. Six perspectives are discussed: 1. The energy and barrier perspective 2. The theory of Normal Accidents 3. The theory of High Reliability Organisations 4. The information processing perspective 5. A decision-making perspective 6. The Resilience Engineering perspective. The target groups of the report are researchers, students and advanced practitioners.
