Abstract
This report provides an overview of all the use cases of the SAMBA-project and concludes the work in WP2
and WP3 of the project. The use cases have been developed based on input from Statnett' s experts in
workshops, available data at Statnett today, and available models/methods from industry and research
partners. A selection of the use cases will be tested in WP5 of the SAMBA-project, and this will be
documented in a separate report.
The required input data for the use cases has been summarized in data matrices, including information on
where the data can be found today, if available. Together with the use case descriptions, this serves as a basis
for identifying which hardware (sensors and so on) and software that best supports the needs for
implementation of the use cases. The ICT architecture needed to support asset management in the future is
the main aim of WP4 in SAMBA.
Valuable information for some use cases is not available today, i.e. information from visual inspections.
Today, it is only possible to find condition information based on visual inspection indirectly through text
descriptions in failure reports. On the other hand, for some use cases, i.e. failure prediction for overhead
lines, a lot of work has already been put into modelling and data analysis. Such information will influence the
prioritizing of use case testing.
Use cases are not static descriptions, and must be updated and further developed after the SAMBA-project.
The data input sources will probably change as Statnett makes decisions on ICT systems and architectures.
There are important decisions to be made when taking the use cases from SAMBA and further to
implementation:
• Which use cases to prioritize for implementation?
• How much resources should be utilized to find and quality assure historical data?
• Which of the suggested new measurements should be performed and for how many components?
• Who in Statnett should be responsible for each use case? How will the results will be implemented?
