DigiVita – Centre for personalized digital health promotion

DigiVita brings together research, industry and the public sector to develop digital solutions that promote health, strengthen self-management and reduce pressure on health services.

The Centre for Research-based Innovation (SFI) DigiVita improves, personalizes, evaluates, and scales digital health promotion solutions through the integration of research, technology, and cross-sector collaboration. The centre addresses the growing need for more proactive and individualized approaches to health and well-being as health systems face increasing pressure from chronic diseases, ageing populations, and resource constraints.

At the core of DigiVita is a shift from treating disease to preventing it and promoting health. By combining data from multiple sources—including wearable devices, clinical systems, environmental data, and self-reported information—the centre enhances and personalizes existing digital health solutions to provide adaptive support tailored to individual needs and circumstances. These solutions aim to strengthen health literacy, support healthy behaviour change, and empower people to take a more active role in managing their own health and well-being.

Through pilot environments and large-scale real-world studies, DigiVita evaluates how digital health promotion solutions can be effectively integrated into everyday life and health services. Particular attention is given to usability, effectiveness, inclusiveness, scalability, and long-term sustainability.

SINTEF’s role in DigiVita

SINTEF contributes to DigiVita through pilot implementation, evaluation, and ecosystem innovation, helping to bridge the gap between research, innovation, and real-world adoption.

Working closely with municipalities, citizens, public authorities, and industry partners, SINTEF supports the improvement, adaptation, and evaluation of existing digital health solutions. The goal is to ensure that these solutions are useful, user-friendly, and aligned with the needs of the people and organizations that will use them.

A key responsibility is to generate evidence on effectiveness, value, and implementation. Through large-scale studies and real-world evaluations, SINTEF will assess how digital interventions influence health outcomes, quality of life, user engagement, and service delivery. The centre will also investigate how such interventions can contribute to more sustainable health and care systems.

In addition, SINTEF plays an important role in strengthening collaboration between research organizations, public sector stakeholders, industry, and citizens. By developing co-governance models, implementation strategies, and sustainable innovation ecosystems, SINTEF aims to support the large-scale adoption of effective digital health solutions and maximize their societal impact.
