REWAMP - Repurposing coke waste for scalable battery electrode material production

Research is focused on increasing the utilisation rate of Vianode's raw materials for its graphite production, to enable use as anode material in either Li-ion batteries or Na-ion batteries.

Contact person

Vianode is one of Europe’s largest producers of anode graphite for lithium-ion batteries and has a clear ambition to produce the greenest graphite possible. In this context, SINTEF has now been brought on board to help explore opportunities for increasing Vianode’s production yield.

This will be attempted by modifying the materials before they are graphitised at high temperature, so that they can be used for high-quality anodes in either Li-ion or Na-ion batteries. SINTEF will contribute to the material modification itself, to the electrochemical testing of both Li-ion and Na-ion batteries, as well as to the characterisation of both the starting materials and the cycled electrodes.
