Background
The aquaculture industry has been characterised by significant technological development in recent years.
Historically, innovation in the industry has occurred gradually, but today's challenges require greater and collective innovation efforts to develop new production systems (such as submerged farms, closed systems, exposed and offshore aquaculture), treatment solutions (such as integrated solutions at the facility and solutions on board vessels), and to establish new value chains for feed ingredients. This necessitates substantial investments, as well as collaboration, sharing, and implementation of knowledge within and across aquaculture companies, technology providers, management, and R&D.
Barriers that limit the potential for innovation may be economic, technological, regulatory, and organisational, or may relate to incentives and framework conditions. The project will explore key barriers with the aim of measures that can contribute to effective innovation processes in the aquaculture industry.
Implementation
In the first part of the project, knowledge about innovation barriers from literature and interviews will be systematised. Furthermore, discussions on key barriers and the development of measures will be facilitated through working meetings and seminars. Employees in aquaculture companies, technology suppliers, management, and R&D institutions, among others will be invited to actively participate.
