ORION’s vision

The ORION vision is to strengthen the European leadership in science and technology and accelerate the twin energy transition of the energy value chain stakeholders. ORION is developing a modular toolbox of digital breakthrough components for the use cases of hydro, solar and wave energy. Results of these novel tools will be presented in a human-centric Graphical Digital Twin applications. The aim is to enable a higher-degree of digitalisation of relevant operational and business processes and increase the renewables share in the electricity grid globally. This will, in the long run, reduce fossil fuels consumption in times of increased demand for energy resources, uncertain geopolitical times, and changing climate conditions.

Key digital components

The following key digital components will be developed in close collaboration with the five use cases spread over three continents:

  1. Sensor technologies
  2. Data and Models Interoperability
  3. Asset Management
  4. Data Driven Decision Systems

Graphical Digital Twin

The ORION project is creating a next-generation, human-focused Graphical Digital Twin that uses immersive 4D visuals and advanced data to support cities, regions, and energy stakeholders worldwide. ORIONs graphical digital twin solution allows decision-makers to visualize data and simulations in an interactive way, making it easier to plan for a greener future.  This technology will speed up the transition to clean energy and help communities adapt to climate change.
