Over the last 30 years, SINTEF has developed knowledge and tools towards the improvement of borehole stability:
- Methods for characterization of shales including mechanical, petrophysical, fluid exposure, post-failure analysis
- Software for advanced borehole stability calculation (PSI) which includes a poroelastic model with time, chemical, thermal, plasticity, strength anisotropy and scaling (lab to field) effects
- An extensive database with field shale properties
