Our preliminary review of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden identifies recurring barriers: complex permitting, fragmented responsibilities, uncertain funding, inadequate landowner incentives and inconsistent monitoring.
We invite authorities, researchers and stakeholders to test these findings against their experience and identify practical solutions and opportunities for Nordic cooperation.
Together, we will:
- Identify and validate the main regulatory, financial and organisational barriers to wetland restoration;
- Explore solutions: simpler permitting, predictable funding, landowner compensation, advice and collective delivery;
- Distinguish national actions from opportunities for Nordic cooperation on monitoring, reporting and credible carbon credits;
- Prioritise actionable recommendations for the joint Nordic policy brief.
Preliminary programme
- Welcome, project introduction and key review findings
- Nordic authority and expert perspectives on barriers and solutions
- Group discussion: practical solutions and Nordic cooperation
- Joint prioritisation of recommendations and next steps
