Welcome to the series of NCCS Lunch Webinars. The webinars consist of a 20-minute presentation followed by questions and discussion. The presentation will be recorded, but not the Q&A and discussion that follows.

Presenter: Stian Aakre, General Manager, Technical and R&D, Wärtsilä

Green House Gas emissions is the biggest challenge facing the Shipping industry. By its nature Shipping is challenging to decarbonise and there is no clear technology roadmap for how to achieve the required emission reductions. Any solution needs to be both practical, cost-efficient and take into account the overall environmental impact in terms of emissions and energy demand. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) has been proven on land and has the potential to provide significant emission reductions at a faster pace than the alternatives also for the shipping industry, allowing utilisation of existing resources in the most energy effective manner.

Stian Aakre, General Manager, Technical and R&D, will present the ongoing work at Wärtsilä and the challenges and opportunities of CCS in the maritime sector.
