Medical Technology Laboratories

The main objective of the laboratory is to generate new research results that benefit the healthcare sector, public health services, authorities, industry, and businesses. In addition to research and development (R&D) activities, a range of other services are also provided through our laboratories.

The Medical Technology Laboratory within the Department of Health contains equipment for the development and evaluation of various technologies for ultrasound imaging, image-guided therapy, and medical robotics. This includes, among other things:

  • Ultrasound systems
  • Imaging phantoms
  • Navigation systems for image guidance
  • Tracking systems
  • Equipment for accuracy measurements
  • Equipment for ultrasound probe calibration
  • Collaborative robotic arms (UR5 and Franka Panda)

The laboratory is co-located with St. Olavs Hospital. Through this collaboration, SINTEF also has access to facilities including examination rooms, operating rooms, and simulation centres for the development and evaluation of medical technologies.
