Daniel Ørnes Halvorsen is a research scientist at SINTEF Ocean developing models and decision support for marine applications. His work includes modelling the spread of viruses and sea lice in aquaculture, operational ocean forecasting and efficient search strategies for fisheries.

PhD in Engineering Cybernetics from NTNU with the thesis “Towards precision state estimation of the ocean using the Ensemble Kalman Filter”. MSc in Applied Physics and Mathematics from NTNU with the master’s thesis "Studies of turbulent diffusion through direct numerical simulation"
Competence and research areas
Expertise in numerical ocean modelling, data assimilation, ensemble methods, uncertainty analysis, operational ocean forecasting, particle and pathogen transport, observing-system design and autonomous systems. Works with Linux-based high-performance computing and advanced model development in Fortran 90 and Python, as well as hybrid modelling combining artificial intelligence with physics-based models.
