SINTEF (1900 employees) is the largest independent contract research organization in Scandinavia and the 4th largest in Europe. SINTEF is a multidisciplinary organization performing research in the field of health, medical technology, information and communications technology, marine activities, materials science and applied chemistry, petroleum and energy, technology management and building/construction. Over 90% of the income comes from commissions from industry and public administration and from project funding from the Research Council of Norway. SINTEF Materials and Chemistry serves e.g. the plastic industry, having skilled personnel and equipment for synthesis, modification, analysis, processing and testing of polymeric/composite materials.
As a main part of the activity in NanoBarrier, SINTEF applies its extended competence on nanosized materials.
