TCCS’ environmental commitment

TCCS-12 is committed to generate a climate footprint as small as possible.

The conference will compensate for air travel and encourage emission free transportation. We cooperate only with hotels operating according to strict sustainability policies and food and beverages are to the highest degree possible short-travelled and ecologically produced. The goal is to generate as little waste as possible, in terms of food, paper and plastics.

Travelling

We encourage attendees to take bus, train, or other public transport to and from the airport. The bus in Trondheim is fueled by electricity.

Hotel and food

Scandic Nidelven and Scandic Lerkendal is certified according to Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Scandic has been voted the most sustainable brand in the hotel industry for nine years in a row, by Sustainable Brand Index Sweden.

To reduce waste of food, we will remind attendees to inform the organizers if they will not show. Information about allergies and food preferences has also been collected in advance, so that the hotel can prepare the correct quantity of various dishes. For the surplus food, the hotels make use of the app “To good to go”, where customers can buy the food to a reduced price.

Donation

To compensate for emissions generated by TCCS, we will donate 100 per tonne of CO2 from our carbon footprint to the SINTEF Global Climate Fund.

Based on an average from calculations and empirical averages obtained using the three platforms myclimate.org, carbonfootprint.com, and SAS's flight calculator, the expected carbon footprint for the conference will be approximately 250 tons. Accommodation and travel are the two areas that contribute the highest CO2 emissions.

The climate fund allocates financial support to basic research within SINTEF and other R&D institutions, at low TRL scale, with a view to developing technologies that can remove GHG from the atmosphere and the oceans.
