Borregaard AS (BOR)

Borregaard is an international company with strong global positions in wood-based chemicals and selected niches of organic chemicals. The company develops and supplies Specialty Chemicals, Fine Chemicals and Ingredients for a wide range of applications. Borregaard has 20 production plants in 12 countries and sales offices in Europe, America, Asia and Africa. Borregaard has 1,210 employees and expects sales to total 4 billion NOK in 2010. Borregaard’s unique competence in the field of wood-based chemicals is the basis for the company’s strategy of specialisation and concentration in global niche markets. Borregaard’s Specialty Chemicals businesses (Borregaard ChemCell and Borregaard LignoTech) utilise the various components of wood to produce high value added products such as speciality cellulose, lignin-based binding and dispersing agents, and ethanol. Wood is the basis for Borregaard’s production of the aroma chemical vanillin. Borregaard is part of the Orkla Group, which is one of the largest listed companies in Norway with main activities in the areas of Branded Consumer Goods, Chemicals and Financial Investments. Orkla has 32,000 employees and its turnover was around 57 billion NOK in 2010. Borregaard’s headquarter and research site is located in Norway. The R&D department for the different business areas is operating together and consists of 60 persons. This bring along a strong R&D department with wide range of competence within several chemical disciplines.
