Lack of knowledge on safety concerns associated with a widespread roll-out of H₂ technology represents a major bottleneck for industry, authorities, end-users and the general public. Studies show that the public perception of risk is closely tied to the available information, which may be negatively affected by recent events.42 To avoid unnecessary restrictions, it is crucial to increase the knowledge on safe use of H₂, thereby mitigating hazards and lowering impediments to widespread implementation. Hence, developing and validating risk assessment models and disseminating knowledge and guidelines regarding H₂ safety, especially for use in the general public, is of key importance. For this reason, SP3 focuses on supporting the definition of design, monitoring, and support for safe operations.
