Four challenges are highlighted:

1. Pumping of oils with high viscosity or extreme rheological behaviour.
2. Recovery of oil trapped under ice.
3. Recovery unit with high capacity for larger oil spills.
4. "Multipurpose” equipment (for open as well as ice covered water)

Manufacturers of oil spill recovery equipment will be invited to submit ideas for improvement of oil spill recovery in ice-infested waters as a basis for potential part-funding through this JIP.
