Hydrogen is a clean energy carrier, which, together with renewable electricity, can realize the required decarbonisation of the global energy consumption. Hydrogen offers zero-emission solutions for hard to abate sectors, including heavy duty transportation and carbon intensive industries, such as steel and ammonia production, as well as other chemical processes.
The Green Hydrogen Webinars series is linked to several hydrogen projects. One of them is the REFHYNE project, a European project funded by the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking. REFHYNE's objective is to build and operate the world's largest PEM electrolyser at Shell's Rhineland refinery in Cologne. The 10 MW electrolyser is being built by ITM Power, and operation is scheduled to begin in 2021. More information about the REFHYNE project can be found here.
Webinar series - Large scale green hydrogen production

Annual worldwide installed electrolyser capacity is currently in the low hundred MW range. According to the EU’s hydrogen strategy, at least 6 GW of electrolysers will be installed between 2020 and 2024. This number should increase to 40 GW by 2030, and in addition an import supply chain from outside Europe with similar 40 GW of electrolyser capacity shall be established. Some EU members have already released their own strategies, with Spain, Germany and France alone committing to 4, 5 and 6.5 GW of green hydrogen respectively by 2030.
ITM Power, Ørsted and Snam will share their views on this growing demand for electrolysers, from technology supplier to end user perspectives. Relevant aspects to consider include manufacturing technology and capacity, supply chains of materials and components, competence and employment requirements, financials and politics/regulations.
