Ayaz Ali Departs Norway September 2021

After 2 successful and intensive years at SINTEF working on the 2DSense project as a post-doctoral research fellow, Ayaz departs Norway and will take up a position as Assistant Professor at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, Pakistan.

The 2DSense project groups is proud that the recent article in Applied Nano Materials was chosen for the cover of the April 2021 issue of the journal.

Elettra Synchrotron Visit October 5th – 12th 2019

SINTEF researchers (Ingvild Thue Jensen, Branson Belle and Ayaz Ali), visiting IIT PhD student (Prashant Bisht) and visiting masters student (Martha Benthem) travelled to Elettra Synchrotron facility to carry out X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements on MoS2 and MoO3 devices to understand the mechanisms involved in NOx detection. The experiments were successful and the results are currently being written up.

Professor B. R. Mehta and Prashant Bisht Visit Oslo 29th September to 2nd October 2019

Prof. B.R. Mehta and his PhD student travelled to Oslo for project meetings and discussions about future collaborations. Prashant remained in Oslo for 4 weeks to carry out joint research with SINTEF. Prashant also travelled with SINTEF researchers to Elettra synchrotron facility (Italy) to carry out studies aimed at understanding the mechanisms involved in gas detection of 2D materials. Prashant also enjoyed cultural experiences including a floating sauna and swim in the Oslo Fjord.

Post Doctorate Fellow Ayaz Ali and Marta Benthem present their work at Graphene Week 2019, Helsinki Finland

Both Ayaz and Marta presented their work at the world premier conference on graphene and 2D materials, Graphene Week. This is the main meeting place for researchers from the EU and further afield working in this space. Graphene week falls under the auspices of Graphene Flagship, the EU 10 year 1billion project on graphene and 2D materials.

Ayaz's poster was entitled 'NOx detection by MoS2/hBN heterostructures' and Marta's poster was entitled '2D crystal temperature dependent adhesion in the development of Van der Waals heterostructures'.

Branson and Ozhan Visit IIT Delhi September 8th -12th 2019

Branson and Ozhan (SINTEF) travelled to IIT Delhi to decorate the first heterostructure devices with size selected Pd nano particles. These devices were intended to be used in upcoming synchrotron experiments in Trieste Italy. Project planning meetings were held with updates from both SINTEF and IIT Delhi. Additionally, a special cricket match (T20) was arranged between the physics and engineering departments. Branson who played for the physics department scored 11 off 18 balls. The physics department were triumphant on this occasion.

Dr. Ayaz has joined SINTEF as a Post Doc. Fellow on the 2DSense project

Dr. Ayaz Ali is from Pakistan. He has a Bachelor in Electronics from University of Sindh, Jamshoro in 2009, Master of Engineering in Microelectronics from Zhejiang University in 2014, and PhD in Electronic Science and Technology from Zhejiang University in 2018. His research interest focuses on integration of graphene like 2D materials (TMDCs, BP, hBN) for high performance heterostructure devices such as broadband photodetectors and emerging smart sensors for the internet-of-things applications.
