Bioenergy Innovation Award 2013
Solør Bioenergi is the winner of the Bioenergy Innovation Award 2013, awarded on 11 April, during the CenBio-days, in Trondheim. Solør Bioenergi has succeeded in exploiting new possibilities to develop profitable activities, which has made them one of Norway's leading operators within the field of bioenergy. The winner has demonstrated that it is possible to establish and operate biomass-based CHP plants in Norway in a cost-effective manner, by recognising and optimally exploiting synergy effects in the market. The company sets an example for others who want to establish biomass-based CHP plants in Norway. The committee's citation (2013-04-16)

COST Training School 2013

COST Training School – Forest Fuel Quality Assurance
The registration for the 6th Training School 2013 from COST is open now! The Training School will take place at Campus Ås (Norway), on 9-15 June 2013 and is supported by CenBio. The focus is set on forest fuel quality assurance. The participants will be provided with knowledge of existing standards, inherent fuel properties, different sampling methods for analyses, field sampling, bio-refinery concepts and users, etc. More info can be found here. After four years of research activities, a few examples of stories involving successful collaborations between CenBio research scientists and user partners have been gathered in a booklet. Improving the wood market
Today, firewood for woodstoves is often sold by volume, for instance by 40 or 60-liter bags. This does not represent the true energy content of what the consumer buys. Skog-og-Landskap Research scientist Simen Gjølsjø defends the benefits for both buyers and sellers to label the firewood with actual weight, humidity and number of kilowatt-hours. See the full article on forskning.no. 12-hour Wood Marathon on NRK1 and NRK2 on Friday 15th February 2013
Friday night you can enjoy a full evening dedicated to wood burning on your TV with NRK. At 19:40 starts "Norge rundt" on NRK1, before "Nasjonal Vedkveld" starts on NRK2 at 20:00. SINTEF Research scientist Morten Seljeskog and Skog-og-Landskap Research scientist Simen Gjølsjø will demonstrate some of the knowledge acquired through CenBio. You can replay the TV-programme here. Statkraft Varme in Ås: the heat comes
The new district heating plant from Statkraft Varme rises in Ås's campus (Norway). The environment friendly heat production from the plant is scheduled to start by September 2013. More information can be found here (in Norwegian). (2013-01-31)

The call for proposals of candidates to the Bioenergy Innovation Award 2013 is now open! The Bioenergy Innovation Award was established three years ago by CenBio to stimulate and reward knowledge-based innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of bioenergy. SINTEF Seminar
A seminar on wood firing was arranged by SINTEF on Tuesday 4th December 2012 in Oslo. The seminar covered the entire chain from wood production and most effective ways to use woodstoves, to the work on optimisation of furnaces. Bioenergy Innovation Award 2012
CAMBI ASA is the winner of the Bioenergy Innovation Award 2012. CAMBI develops, markeds and constructs efficient processing plants for production of biogas from wet organic waste and biomass derived from decontaminated sewage sludge. Leading customers regard their technology as the best available (BAT), and 26 plants have been sold in several countries. The prize was awarded 19 January, during the CenBio-days, at Ås. Further information. (2012-01-25)

3rd International Conference on Biomass and Waste Combustion
is arranged 24 - 25 April 2012 in London, UK. The Conference will focus mainly on the technical aspects of biomass and waste combustion. The Conferense is arranged by SINTEF, KEMA and Vattenfall.  Early bird until 15 Januar 2012. More information on the Conference website.


Renewable Energy Research Conference 2012 
This scientific conference is arranged Trondheim 16. - 17. april 2012, in Trondheim, and the focus is on renewable energy technologies. In addition to interesting lectures on general issues concerning renewable energy, there will be 13 detailed scientific parallel sessions. One session is devoted to bioenergy including heat, cooling and/or power generation from biomass. The conference is arranged by SFFE - Centre for renewable energy.


Bioenergy Innovation Award - Announcement
Proposals for candidates for the Bioenergy Innovation Award 2012 are requested. Last year CenBio introduced the “Bioenergy Innovation Award”, a national innovation award within stationary bioenergy. Seminar on green certificates and biopower
A SINTEF-seminar with the title "Green certificates - new opportunities for biopower?" is arranged Thursday 13 October. The programme includes three presentations followed by a plenary discussion.  The Laudise Medal is awarded to CenBio researcher
Associate Professor Anders Hammer Strømman (NTNU/CenBio) has received the Laudise Medal. The Laudise Medal is awarded every second year by The International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE) to a researcher who has made an excellent contribution to research in industrial ecology in the early part of his or her career.

The award was handed out by Professor Marian Chertow from Yale University during the ISIEs conference at UC Berkley in the beginning of June. The jury emphasized in their statement that Strømman has given a substantial contribution to improve the methodology for life cycle analysis.
They also emphasized his work within environmental assessment of bioenergy and global production systems. Further information on the NTNU website. (2011-08-10)


National bioenergy award
The first Bioenergy Innovation Award was given to research scientist Edvard Karlsvik, SINTEF. He has been working on development of new combustion technology for wood stoves for 30 years, and has been an important person in the development of clean burning wood stoves. The award took place 18 January, during the CenBio days, in Trondheim. Further information. (2011-01-21)

 Renewable Energy Research Conference 2010
This scientific conference is arranged 7-8 June 2010, in Trondheim, and the focus is on renewable energy technologies. In addition to interesting lectures on general issues concerning renewable energy, there will be detailed scientific parallel sessions within wind power, solar cells, hydropower, bioenergy, transport, ocean energy, zero emission buildings, as well as societal aspects of energy production and utilization.  18th European Biomass Conference & Exhibition
The European Biomass Conference and Exhibition combines a very renowned international Scientific Conference with an Industry Exhibition. This years conference is arranged in Lyon, France, 3-7 May 2010, and is expected to attract 1500 participants. (2010-03-08)


International Conference on Impacts of Fuel Quality on Power Production & Environment 
is arranged in Saariselkä, Finland, 29 August - 3 September 2010. The conference will focus on traditional fossil derived fuels, peat, biomass derived fuels, wastes and other demanding fuels and the challenges these fuels may create when fired. (2010-03-08)

Second International Conference on Biomass and Waste Combustion
"Second International Conference on Biomass and Waste Combustion" is arranged 16-17 February 2010 in Oslo. The Conference will focus mainly on the technical aspects of biomass and waste combustion. The Conferense is arranged by SINTEF, and results from the EU project NextGenBioWaste will be presented. Several full scale demonstrations of new technology are carried out supported by reseach activities. More information on the Conference website (2009-10-13).
