Mats G. Larson

Mats G. Larson is assistant professor at Department of Computational Mathematics, Chalmers University of Technology, Goteborg, Sweden. He is also Scientific Advisor for the Computational Physics field at the Fraunhofer-Chalmers Research Centre for Industrial Mathematics. His research interests are within computational mathematics with particular focus on:

  • Scientific computing and efficient implementation of finite element methods
  • Multiscale algorithms
  • Modelling and industrial applications including electromagnetics, solid-, and biomechanics


Rolf Rannacher

Prof. Rolf Rannacher is head of the Numerical Methods group at the Institut für Angewandte Mathematik, University of Heidelberg, Germany. Morover, he is speaker of SFB 359: Reaktive Flow, Diffusion and Transport, and member of Board of Directors of Interdisciplinary Center of Scientific Computing (IWR).

Rannacher is working on efficient methods for solving numerical problems arising in fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, chemistry and astrophysics. His main research interests are:

  • Finite element methods
  • Adaptivity
  • Optimization
  • Multigrid methods
  • Parallel computing
He has previously held positions at the universities of Bonn, Ann Arbor (Michigan), Erlangen, Saarbrucken.
