Conferences
The International Congress on Durability of Concrete (ICDC) series are built on the heritage of the former CANMET/ACI Conferences on durability of concrete and Mohan Malhotra is the Honorary Chair of this series.
The 1st ICDC was held in Trondheim, Norway, in 2012, and the 2nd ICDC was held in New Delhi, India, in 2014. The 3rd ICDC will be held in Adelaide, Australia, in 2017 and is jointly organised by the Concrete Institute of Australia and the Norwegian Concrete Institute.
The ICDC series serve as a forum for exchanging current research results, with the main objective of displaying how concrete will continue to ensure durable buildings and structures for sustainable development in both local and global contexts. Making durable concrete is not only important for ecology (less CO2 emission and resource consumption), but also economy as maintenance of degrading concrete structures of inferior quality is of significant cost. The complexity of concrete durability demands specialist from different fields, including chemistry, geology and civil engineers within materials, as well as structural engineers.
The HPC series of conferences has a long and fruitful history of presenting advances in concrete technology, from its start in Stavanger, Norway in 1987, 30 years ago. Strongly driven by the need for higher strength and better performance of concrete structures, we may today conclude that concrete has indeed improved significantly over the last 30 years. Based on the present state of concrete quality, the CIC series of conferences, only one arranged so far in 2014, aims at innovative application of concrete in the widest context. The modern world needs innovation to arrive at modern and sustainable solutions.
The 2nd CIC follows the success of the 1st CIC held in Oslo, Norway, in June 2014. The future needs expressed by the industry, the society, such as energy saving, reduced CO2‐emission, and resources use, efficient construction and higher performance to lower cost, are innovation drivers. The 2nd CIC themes will be based on this. To underline the importance of innovation, a contest will be organized to highlight the best innovation in several categories.
