Accelerated Computing in Discrete Optimization -- CANCELED
Workshop organized by the Department of Optimization at SINTEF ICT <br> Holmenkollen Park Hotel, Oslo, Norway January 28th & 29th, 2016 -- CANCELED

Modern commodity computers are inherently heterogeneous. They contain a multi-core processor and accelerators like the graphics card or the Xeon Phi. Accelerators can nowadays easily be used for general purpose programming, and thus they have the potential to speed up discrete optimization methods.

The goal of this workshop is to discuss recent research on optimization methods that utilize accelerators, and to create ideas for future research. An example would be adapting a well-known, successful algorithm to the GPU or the Xeon Phi. Of particular interest is the combined usage of the multi-core CPU and one or more accelerators to fully utilize the computational power available in modern PCs.

To participate, please submit an extended abstract of at most two pages.

Venue

The workshop will take place at the Holmenkollen Park Hotel Oslo. We have reserved a number of rooms for the participants from Wednesday January 27 to Friday January 29.

Arrival

The main Oslo airport most airlines are flying to is Oslo Gardermoen. The easiest and fastest way to get to Oslo from the airport is to take the airport express train, which goes every 10 minutes. The train needs around 20 minutes from the airport to the central station. At central station you can change to the metro line 1 direction Frognerseteren. Then leave the metro at Holmenkollen station and walk 10 minutes up to the hotel.

You can use the online planner from Ruter, the Oslo public transportation company, to find the best connection.

Oslo also has 2 smaller airports a bit further away, Rygge and Torp. From both airports there is a bus connection to central Oslo, see Ryggeekspressen for Rygge and Torpekspressen for Torp.

Costs (preliminary)

The workshop will cost around 2750,- NOK which includes lunch and dinner on Thursday and lunch on Friday. The welcome event on Wednesday is voluntary and will be around 1000,- NOK. In addition comes the hotel room at 1140,- NOK for a single room per night. So if you join the welcome event and stay both nights, you will have to pay around 6030,- NOK.

Registration

Registration will be available later. Information about how to reserve the hotel to get the discounted room price will be available later as well.
